Escape from your day with these quick bathroom decor tips

You’ve had a long day at the office or at home with the kids. How you long for an evening (or even ten minutes) of pampering and relaxation to take the edge off. With these 10 tips and a bit of creativity and arranging, you can transform your ordinary bathroom into a relaxing haven fit for a queen.

1.  Add a Floral Arrangement

It’s amazing how fresh flowers can transform a room. Although it’s impractical to have them every day, treat yourself to a new bouquet, occasionally, and keep a pretty vase on standby. Adding the right assortment will promote relaxation, boost your mood, and add a touch of elegance to your bathroom.

2.  Buy a Bathtub Caddy

This is the perfect indulgence (and makes a great gift for Mother’s Day). I own Pristine Bamboo’s Wine Caddy and absolutely love it. After a stressful day, I look forward to coming home, grabbing a book, pouring a glass of wine and heading upstairs to the bath. With a bathtub caddy, you are able to relax in the tub with an easy place to hold your soaps, reading material and drink of choice. With this setup, you may prefer the comfort of your own bathroom over the spa…but probably not!

3.  Invest in a Favorite Brand for your Basic Products

It might take a while for you to find a brand you love enough—but the investment is worth it. For your basics like hand soap, lotions and bath salts, choose a line that you love (my personal favorite is Jo Malone). Having uniform bottles and jars can really make a difference in keeping a calm feel to your bathroom. Most spas have their own signature line that they keep in branded bottles for this very reason. If there isn’t one line you want to stick with, purchase some clear, empty bottles and pour your favorite products into those to add a touch of elegance to your countertop. Less is more!

4.  Store Bathroom Essentials in Glass Jars

If you want your bathroom to truly feel like a retreat, put your basic bathroom items into glass jars. Q-tips, cotton balls and cotton pads are easily accessible when you keep them visible on your counter, but their packaging isn’t exactly pretty. Keeping these essentials in glass jars will not only help keep your bathroom organized and functional, it will be easy to know when you need to re-up on your supplies. I love Crate & Barrel’s Heritage Hill collection, but any glass jar will work. For a rustic look, try mason jars!

5.  Hide Non-Essentials in Cabinets and Drawers

It’s easy to leave your hair and makeup products out on the counter in the morning (especially when you are in a rush) but it also makes your bathroom feel cluttered. It doesn’t matter how beautiful your bathroom is—if it’s cluttered, it won’t feel relaxing. Take a couple of minutes each day to put items back in the cabinets or drawers after using them. Not only will this keep your counter clear, it will make you feel less stressed. I find bathroom drawer organizers to be incredibly helpful.

6.  Invest in Luxury Towels

This might be less about looks and more about comfort but spending a little extra for high-end linens is always worth it. Most spa towels are made from Turkish cotton; premium cotton with extra-long fibers, making the towel soft and highly absorbent. Egyptian cotton towels are another option as they are of the highest quality and are considered the ‘Cadillac’ of towels, however, they will come with the expected price increase. Pottery Barn carries a lovely line of Turkish cotton towels that are extremely absorbent and soft.

7.  Hide your Tissue Box

This is extremely simple, and if you aren’t already doing this, run out and pick up a neutral-colored tissue box cover. (I prefer white because my master bathroom has a lot of white in it.) Keeping brand labels hidden will help make your bathroom feel elegant, clean and spa-like.

8.  Add a Fresh Scent to Your Toilet Paper Roll

This may be more of a bathroom trick than a décor tip but add a drop or two of your favorite essential oil to the inside edge of your toilet paper roll (it may sound strange but trust me). Every time the roll is used, the scent will re-release, keeping your bathroom smelling pleasant. I use chamomile and cedarwood in my home. Please keep your pets in mind whenever using essential oils in your home. Some scents (such as cinnamon and eucalyptus) can be toxic to pets.

9.  Add Music

My bathroom routine completely changed from tedious to enjoyable when I moved my Bluetooth speaker to the master bath. In the morning, listening to upbeat songs while sipping coffee gets me going; by the end of the day when I’m ready to relax, soothing tunes help wind me down. Find a sleek, high-quality sound speaker and place it strategically—you won’t regret it.

10.  Splurge on Slippers

No one likes waking up early and having to stand on cold tile while getting ready for the day (especially in the winter months). Splurge on some soft, comfortable slippers to keep your feet warm when they need it. It will make those early mornings a bit more bearable!
